year absence, JUPITER Caps
are back ! After a move back east, and a lengthy process of
re-qualifying |
|
| new OEM vendors,
Jupiter has re-launched their unique line of signal caps.....with a broader
range, improved reliability and slightly |
|
| improved technical
and sonic performance, this product line is poised for a real
resurgence in the DIY marketplace. |
|
|
|
|
|
| These are large
plate area capacitors (both 100V
Loudspeaker and 600V signal coupling types) made of all natural materials, |
|
| most notably
beeswax impregnated kraft paper dielectric. Available leads
are standard OFHC copper leads or 4/9 silver leads. |
|
|
|
|
|
| Jupiter Condenser
capacitors are hand made in the USA using the finest specially selected
materials. |
|
|
|
|
|
| For Jupiter, the
dielectric was the first area to be addressed in the manufacture of their
caps. From the early 1900's to the 1950's, |
|
| the greatest paper
capacitor research was in the area of dielectrics...with no mention of foils.
Paper formulation and it's handling were key, |
|
| though impregnants
were deemed the most important area. Specifically, anti-oxidant
characteristics of impregnants were prized. . |
|
| With beeswax, there
are small amounts of propolis, which is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal,
anti-viral, and most importantly, a very |
|
| powerful
anti-oxidant. This protects the paper and foil from further oxidation, and
keep microbes from eating/degrading the wax and paper |
|
|
|
|
|
| Jupiter has also
adopted manufacturing practices used by RCA and techniques developed by Bell
Telephone which were also |
|
| implemented in
Western Electric paper capacitor manufacturing. These procedures combined
with Jupiter's own proprietary techniques, |
|
| yield an insulation
resistance that averages 50K megohm. |
|
|
